L.A. Flea Market at Dodger Stadium

LA Flea Market rendering at Dodger Stadium

The L.A. Flea Market is coming to Dodger Stadium on July 18, 2010, and will take place every third Sunday of the month when there’s not a Dodger game.

A few community members had expressed concern over yet more street traffic throughout the neighborhood. Noel Pallais sent out a community-wide notification at the end of April, and wrote about how the flea market is to be handled:

At last week’s Community Advisory Committee meeting (which is comprised of community representatives) we discussed that the Dodger organization was approached by an antique and collectibles promoter about the possibility of the parking lot handling a flea market. Our staff conducted a thorough and extensive review and we were pleased to discover that his events have been well received in other communities

We have decided to move forward with a once a month flea market. The markets are scheduled for the third Sunday of every month (as long as there isn’t a game scheduled) commencing on July 18th and going through February, 2011.

We cannot stress enough that we made it abundantly clear to the promoter that the event must be first rate and in good taste. All vendors interested in participating must be cleared and approved by the promoter through an extensive vetting process.

In an effort to minimize any impact on our neighbors, the set-up for the event will take place on Saturday during the day with the starting times on Sunday scheduled for 7:00 AM for VIP’s and at 9:00 AM for the general public. Also, to adequately address any community traffic concerns, all incoming traffic will be directed to enter the Stadium through EITHER the Sunset Gate (Stadium Way/Elysian Park Avenue) or the Downtown Gate (adjacent to the 110 south exit/Stadium Way). Additionally, all event announcements will make specific notation that these will be the only two gates that will be open. To that end, there will be an appropriate number of Dodger security and transportation personnel on hand to help manage the event.

Finally, should you have any questions you may contact me at 323.224.2636.

As mentioned above, traffic will be directed only through the gate at Stadium Way/Elysian Park Avenue, or the Downtown Gate.

There will be a grand opening on the first day, July 18, 2010, featuring radio personality Rick Dees. The event will feature live entertainment and celebrity appearances. Dealers will start arriving at 5:30 am, VIP guests at 7:00 am, and the general public at 9:00 am.

VIP admission is $25.00 (for access to VIP area, restrooms, valet parking, and carrying service)

Dealer’s admission is $15.00, early bird admission $10.00, and general admission is $5.00. Kids under 12 are free.

I was/am concerned about the extra activity and traffic this thing will bring to the neighborhood surrounding Dodger Stadium.

I emailed regarding my concern, and received one prompt email response from “Noel E. Pallais, Manager, Neighborhood Relations, Los Angeles Dodgers,” who also provided the following email address:NoelP@ladodgers.com and the phone number you have above: 323.224.2636. I inquired as to what kind of information would be provided to the residents of the area affected by the flea market and was informed that any and all information would come from Ms. Pallais. What form that information would take was not really described, though I asked for specific details.

I emailed back, thanking Ms. Pallais for her response but asking for clarification about the exact hours the flea market is supposed to run. (The vendor info on the website says they can start setting up at 5am. On Sunday.) I never received a response to my second question.

I know everyone has a different response to the prospect of this flea market–personally, I’m not too psyched. If it proves to be a hassle in any way, I’ll probably just start taking day trjps on Sunday to somewhere peaceful.

    Thanks for the information!
Noel recently spoke at the EPIA community meeting the other week and mentioned that there will be traffic personnel located at the two gates mentioned in the article, in addition the organization running the flea market is not allowed to post signs around the neighborhood.
My personal feelings about the traffic is that we won’t have as much trouble as we do on highly-attended game days – since the flea market goes on all day there probably won’t be that all-at-once mad dash to get to the stadium like there is for a game. I’m sure, of course, there will be plenty of people and cars, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes!

And just an FYI – Noel is a dude (you pronounce his name almost like n-o-l-e), so if you speak to him you won’t be surprised 🙂

Feel free to call or email Noel if you experience difficulties with the flea market.
