Happy 2nd Birthday, AYC!

Celebrate with the amazing bar/restaurant on Thursday, January 27 and take advantage of their two-for-one menu special. Enjoy some wine or a cocktail, some birthday cake, and the super awesome AYC staff and owners (seriously, everyone there is really nice!).

On Mooi’s Facebook page yesterday, they announced the new Echo Park space on Logan and Sunset had passed its final health inspection, and is slated to open soon. Eater LA is also reporting today the raw-vegan restaurant opening is scheduled for Thursday, May 20. We’ll post the restaurant and catering menu once it’s released.

The raw-vegan restaurant concept includes organic food, and, whenever possible, locally grown. They don’t use any animal protein or dairy products, soy, wheat, or gluten. They never deyhdrate anything over 118 degrees, “therefore preserving all of their natural nutriets and enzymes which allows us to bring you not only the best tasting but the healthiest and most nutritional food that we can.”

Quarry Girl is also holding a contest where you create your own ice cream flavor that will appear on the Mooi menu (and you get some free ice cream!). All you have to do is come up with the concept and a name, submit your information, and live in L.A. by Saturday, May 15. Click here for all the information.

Mooi is locatedon the corner of Sunset and Logan.

Hours are: Breakfast and Lunch Monday-Saturday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm; Dinner fare Wednesday-Saturday, 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm; and Brunch on Sunday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

As it is probably common knowledge in Echo Park that this vacant Pioneer Chicken location on Echo Park Avenue is becoming a Little Ceasars as we speak. I walk by this sign every day, and in some nerdy and random way, I will miss this sign if the new owners tear it down. To the future…

Mooi in Echo Park

Looks like Mooi, a raw vegan restaurant we read about earlier this year, is no longer set to open up on Glendale Blvd. under the bridge – its new location has sprung up at the corner of Sunset and Logan. Taking over a former medical clinic, the new corner location is part of Jensen’s Recreation Center.

According to its website, the restaurant concept includes organic food, and, whenever possible, locally grown.

While we await their opening, you can try out their vegan desserts at Elf Cafe (2135 Sunset Boulevard).

Wednesday nights at The Park restaurant on Sunset is a delicious $5 burger night  – whether your tastes be a 6 oz. sirloin or a homemade veggie burger. One thing to know before you go – the burger does come plain, so for $1 each you can add extras like cheese, onions, or aoli.

The last time we went to The Park we were disappointed to learn that its BYOB policy had been thrown out the window a while back. The meal was definitely still delightful, even as my cold bottle of Pinot Grigio sat beside my purse. However, now you can bring your own spirits on Tuesdays and Fridays with a reservation.
