Echo Park laundromat returns from the dead
You may be familiar with the tragic closure of my favorite Echo Park laundromat on Sunset Boulevard and Lemoyne Street. Well it looks like yesterday may have been the day it reopened – we snapped this photo of the grand opening sign announcing a Thursday, June 29 re-opening under new management.
Hopefully the new “managment” can spell better than the makers of this sign – I’ve never heard of “Echo Friendly” laundry!

Hi – I used to also love that laundromat, until the night the attendant locked us all in and then disappeared! I guess to avoid crime, they lock both the doors later in the evening, and only they have the key. When she finally showed up I complained that this was very unsafe, and she acted like she couldn’t understand me. I tried to explain in my Spanglish that if there was a fire we would all be trapped, but she really didn’t care. I never went back!
Also a friend of mine remarked that they would only let you use the restroom if you were Latino, all the white people had to go find another place to go. I really hope the next owners are a little more savvy when it comes to PR! The new place by the donut shop on Echo Park Avenue is very smart about keeping their customers happy and I wish them much success!
