Midnight Ridazz Full Moon Bicycle Ride Tonight

This will help work of the Friday night pizza and beer: a full moon bicycle ride around LA!

Where: Meet at the Echo Park Boat House on the lake

When: meet at 8:30 pm, ride starts are 9:45 pm

Extras: Noisemakers encouraged

Destinations: Echo Park, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Westwood, with stops along the way. Some parts of the route pass by areas where cars have hit cyclists and ran (hit and runs), some of them killed.

October Echo Curio Schedule Announced

Thurs, Oct 1st – PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS presents BENEFIT SHOW for
NIGHT LIGHT with DOMINIC MASSARO and THURLOW performing

This Thursday Plays Well With Other presents FUTURA, a benefit event that will be an impactful night
made up of music and art, with the main focus of bringing awareness to a particular non-profit
organization called Nightlight. This Electronica night will consist of DJ Righteous Trash, Thurlow and
featuring the LA artist Massaro. Massaro’s songs will seduce you with his haunting, beautiful, broken
vocal melodies sung over a brick wall of sea-sick droning guitars. The art will be donated by Sam
Gallagher, Dominic Massaro, and Lawton Outlaw, which scale from a combination of color field paintings
and mixed media paintings to Gary Baseman meets Andy Warhol; surreal cartoon like content that is fun
for the whole family. All of these amazing artists are coming together for the sole reason to help
Nightlight. Nightlight rescues women out of prostitution / sex trafficking in Bangkok, Thailand. A very
prevalent problem with these rescued women is that have been trafficked often fall back into
prostitution. This occurs because they aren’t given the opportunity or resources to learn other skills to
make a living and survive. That’s where Nightlight comes in. They teach the women how to make jewelry
then Nightlight sells it in places like the United States and through that funding, these women are given
the chance at a new life.

3rd Annual “Seize the Sizzle Salsa Contest”

The Echo Park Farmers’ Market is holding its annual “Seize the Sizzle Salsa Contest” on Friday, September 25, 2009, judging from 6:00–7:00 pm. This is the third year the competition between local shoppers and vendors to create the best salsa has taken place.

The EP Farmer’s market, operated by Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA), takes place in parking lot #663, 1142 Logan St., half a block south of Sunset Blvd. It held every Friday from 3:00-7:00 pm, and is sponsored by the Greater Echo Park and Elysian Neighborhood Council (GEPENC) and Council President Eric Garcetti of Council District 13.

According to the press release, provided by the Echo Park Farmer’s Market, anyone can enter the contest for free. “Enrollment is limited to the first 30 contestants. All contestants are encouraged to use ingredients bought fresh from the market for their homemade salsa.” Winners will receive gift certificates from local restaurants.

Park[ing] Day LA in Echo Park

Par[ing] Day LA takes place today across the city, transforming metered parking spots into “temporary public parks.” The event wraps up in Echo Park from 7:00pm – 11:00pm at Logan Street and Park Avenue near the lake. They will be screening Contested Streets, Alley Cats, and the Triplets of Belleville.

“Bring your Park[ing] Day LA stories, a blanket, a chair, a friend, refreshments and join us for a Ride-In Movie under the stars!”

This Weekend: 33rd Annual Mississippi Picnic in Elysian Park

On Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Monticello De Leo Polito in Elysian Park, check out the mouth-watering 33rd Annual Mississippi Picnic LA sponsored by the Mississippi Cultural & Heritage Society of California.

The menu includes fried catfish, BBQ Ribs, and even beer. Food and live bands will entertain you from 1-8:00 pm.

Finish up the crawl at Warwick around 9p for live musical performance by local Echo Park band Whiskey Circus then finish off the night with a drink at Shortstop! And don’t forget it’s $2.50 Margarita night at Barrigan’s!

F Yeah Fest Lineup Announced

The F Yeah Fest has announced this year’s lineup. The fest is on September 5th at the Los Angeles Historic State Park. Apparently the Echo had enough. Last year got so big that people with tickets couldn’t get back into some of the venues for the evening performances. Visit their website for more details. Tickets got on sale tomorrow.
