Last chance to sign up for the Echo Park Community Parade

The annual Echo Park Community Parade is just around the corner, but before we get to enjoy the holiday jingles along Sunset Boulevard on December 14th, the deadline for submitting your application is on Monday.

Some general guidelines to follow when considering what super awesome Echo Park-themed float you’re going to have in the parade:

  • Entries will be allowed to perform a 2-minute routine (maximum).
  • Printed materials and items will not be tossed from the parade route.
  • Megaphones or personal amplifying devices (except for performance music) are not allowed.
  • The final parade lineup is thoroughly discussed and meticulously assembled by the parade committee. Unfortunately, there can be no changes.
  • Remember: This is a family event – please dress participants appropriately.

The parade is on Saturday, December 14, 2013, starting at 11:00 am and runs along Sunset Boulevard from Elysian Park Avenue to Park Avenue. The theme this year is “Neighbors Make Echo Park Beautiful.” Visit the Echo Park Community Parade website for more information and to submit your application!

Echo Park street in the holiday spirit

Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park today just got a little more festive – some new holiday decor was installed along the corridor earlier today.

The Echo Park Chamber of Commerce sponsored an “Adopt-a-Pole” drive, which a number of businesses participated in along with Council District 1 and 13, as well as Senator DeLeon’s office. It will sure look nice for the Echo Park Community Parade on Saturday!

Echo Park Community Parade on Saturday

Celebrate the holiday season with Echo Park and neighboring communities – the annual Echo Park Community Parade takes place this Saturday on December 8, 2012 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Santa will be there!

Parade Grand Marshals include: Los Angeles Police Department Captains William A. Murphy, Captain III (Northeast Community Police Station) & Steve Ruiz, Captain III (Rampart Community Police Station).

Parade Ambassadors are: Central City Action Committee & El Centro Del Pueblo, Select Patrol, Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Station 20, Los Angeles Police Department Senior Lead Officers Lewis Ford of the Rampart Community Police Station, and Bobby Hill of the Northeast Community Police Station.

Echo Park Community Parade in photos

We hate to admit this is only our second Echo Park Community Parade that we’ve been able to attend, but so far it’s our favorite!

There were over 60 entries in this year’s parade, themed “‘Tis the Season.” In addition to local schools, drill teams, cheer squads, and elected officials, there were a few Echo Park businesses and organizations participating in the parade lineup. Amongst those were The Echo Park Time Bank, Edendale Library Friends Society (ELFS), The Warehouse and The Classroom, Mi Alma, 826LA, and others. Maryanne Hayashi of the Central City Action Committee was accompanied by three generations of her family – her daughter, grand-daughter, and her two-year-old great grand-daughter!

Community members that have greatly contributed to our Echo park were give special recognition as ambassadors. Mitch O’Farrell from Eric Garcetti’s Office was honored as the Grand Marshal. Parade Ambassadors included Holly Calhoun of the Echo Park Farmers’ Market, the Echo Park Improvement Association, Masa of Echo Park Bakery & Café, and Albert Torres of Recreation & Parks.

And, as parade committee members told me today, everyone was a winner! All entries received a trophy for participating. It would have been hard to pick any winners, all the entries were fabulous!

Echo Park Community Parade on Saturday!

It’s time for the annual Echo Park Community Parade! The parade takes place on Saturday, December 10, and starts at 10:00 am (ending at about 1:00 pm) and goes along Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, starting at Elysian Park Avenue and ending at Park Avenue.

This year’s theme is “‘Tis the Season.” Each year, young students from the area participant in art contests held at different venues such as the Central City Action Committee (CCAC) and the Echo Park Farmers’ Market, and a panel of judges chooses three winners from varying age groups to have their artwork displayed on the parade flyer, poster and banner. So keep your eye for all the different contributions from area students on these pieces!

In addition to local schools, drill teams, cheer squads, and elected officials, we’ve got a few Echo Park businesses and organizations participating in the parade lineup. Amongst those are The Echo Park Time Bank, Edendale Library Friends Society (ELFS), The Warehouse & The Classroom, Mi Alma, 826LA, and more!

We know that Mi Alma will be bringing in a lot of color to the parade with a piñata-themed float. And The Warehouse LA/The Classroom LA will be sporting a nice big trailer with a live jazz singer and back up dancers. And of course there will be Santa!

Also in the parade lineup, Mitch O’Farrell from Eric Garcetti’s Office is this year’s Grand Marshal. Parade Ambassadors include Holly Calhoun of the Echo Park Farmers’ Market, the Echo Park Improvement Association, Masa of Echo Park Bakery & Café, and Albert Torres of Recreation & Parks.

You might find us sipping mimosas at either The Park Restaurant at Douglas and Sunset, which has a reallllly pretty brand new look to the patio, or keeping a seat warm at Lot 1 Cafe drinking mimosas, where they’ll also be offering hot chocolate and cinnabons.

After the parade, be sure to support your local businesses and shop local! The annual holiday Echo Park Shop Hop is going on, as well as lots of holiday parties at Mi Alma, Tavin, and more!

And lastly my shameless plug: We are so excited to be participating a little bit this year by designing all the new graphics for the flyer, parade program, and all those festive, red posters in the windows around town (hey, it’s our day job!).

The parade was nice this year – I’ve never actually been to one of these before so I don’t have much to compare it to, but there were definitely quite a few typical “LA” moments… Enjoy!

Apply for the 2010 Echo Park Community Parade

We are a little jealous that Atwater Village has a big tree lighting event every year, but we in Echo Park do have a holiday parade!

The Echo Park Community Parade is currently accepting applicants for the 2010 holiday parade on Saturday, December 11.

To apply, you have a few options:

  1. Complete the participation form online at EchoParkCommunityParade.com
  2. Download a PDF Version of the form here. Print, fill out and fax back to Cindy at 213-483-5523, or mail to:
