Once again Echo Curio has a lot of shows lined up to entertain the neighborhood. All shows are at 9pm unless otherwise noted. A $5 donation is asked for at the door.

Echo Curio is located at 1519 Sunset Blvd (at Laveta Ter).

Thurs, April 1st – CHRIS CORSANO + WARM CLIMATE + KOLOVOS / SILBERMAN DUO

Wowee-wow-wow-wow… we’re extra psyched for this show, as we all know the
CORSANO-FLAHERTY DUO, or possibly his work with Sunburned Hand of the
Man, Michael Flowers, Bjork or Jandek, and some of us will have experienced the
CORSANO-KOLOVOS DUO, but most of us have not seen Mr. CHRIS CORSANO
solo.  This drummer experimentalist will no doubt take us into realms undreamed
of.  As will our good friend Seth and his WARM CLIMATE project, whether it be in its
solo form or three piece mammoth form.  More to come on this show!!!

Fri, April 2nd – LAURA GIBSON + ETHAN ROSE perform BRIDGE CAROLS + NOVI SPLIT + DANIEL AHEARN + CMG AND THE NIGHT

BRIDGE CAROLS was born of both LAURA GIBSON’s (amazing songstress for
HUSH) and sound artist ETHAN ROSE’s separate disenchantments with the written
and spoken word.  Together they have created an almost Gysin-esque way of
chopping and rearranging word and tone in new and challenging formats.  The
other three bands pretty much go about the same old way that everybody else
does, but man, do they do it beautifully.

Sunday is family day at the Lake and it’s no different in the bird world. Being a night owl and working days, weekends are the only times I get the chance to stop by the Lake and take in all that’s going on. But what I’ve been hearing from those who have the determination to make it down there for early a.m. walks is that there are some sights to been seen… these are the hours that the birds run the lake.

abevigoda

Abe Vigoda, Lovvers, and The Black Apples will be playing tonight The Echo at 8:30pm.

“Along with Women, Dirty Projectors and Wavves, Abe Vigoda is chipping away at our expectations of how a 21st century rock band should function.

Reviver doesn’t simply take the concepts laid down in Skeleton and give them a novel new twist. Instead, this is the sound of a completely different band, barely recognizable from the fumbling, itchy and trebly guitars that prickled through tracks like “Dead City/Waste Wilderness” from the preceding record. They’ve undergone a process of attrition, of paring down the Abe Vigoda sound until it represents something totally new. All the energy and ideas poured into their music have been un-learned and spewed out into a different musical space.” – Prefix Mag

WEEKEND
YOUNG PRISMS

resident dj Michael Stock spinning mutant disco * Postpunk * indiepop

10pm / $5 / 18+

1822 Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026

It’s a bit of a hike up Echo Park Avenue to get to Echo Country Outpost, but it’s certainly worth the trip. The interior design and the wares they’ve got for sale set it apart from the other boutiques and thrift stores in the neighborhood. While browsing their selection of moccasins, zarapes and giant pinecones, I felt less like I was in a second-hand shop in Los Angeles and more like I was visiting a roadside gift shop off of the 395.

The store has been open since November 2009 and is owned by Erica, Brendan and Chris. According to Erica, the store is a kind of extension of their home. Many of the goods for sale are antiques and handmade objects that they collected while traveling through the desert: antique wool point blankets, all-natural fir and cedar incense, vintage literature and a really fun assortment of goods that evoke the spirit of the American southwest.

As well as a store, they also strive to be “a new neighborhood gathering place.” They’ve already started hosting events including poker every Friday night (open to everyone)! So strap on yer chaps, git on yer mount and ride on over to 1930 Echo Park Ave. They’re open from noon to 8, Tuesday through Sunday.
