That random totem pole decorated with stuffed animals and plastic toys in Elysian Park was removed today, reports The Eastsider LA:

This morning, the approximately 20-foot high totem pole – encrusted with toys, stuffed animals, a Santa Claus mask and other odds and ends – was removed and carted off by Recreation and Parks workers in about two hours with the help of a skip loader. A park worker said no one claimed the items after signs were posted saying the structures would be removed within 72 hours.

Along with the totem pole was a half-moon planter, both apparently removed because of lack of permit. The Eastsider LA article continues:

Looks like another pipe has burst in Elysian Park, along the upper path near Elsyian Park Drive and Academy Road. The water is literally gushing down the road, bringing a bit of mud along with it.

For all of you Terry fans (I just love his character on Reno 911), the Nick Swardson Sketch Show will be filming off of Academy Road in Elysian Park on Monday, March 8 from 7am-10pm.

The 6 episode sketch show is set to debut some time this year.

According to a press release, the Dodgers are planning for an increase in price for 35% of the seats for single-game ticket starting March 6, 2010.

They’ll be increasing some low-end tickets $2-3 for Friday and Saturday games, making Top Deck tickets $15, left-field pavilion seats are up $5 to $18, and other various increases for the cheaper tickets (these numbers appear to be the price for advance purchase tickets – those purchased at the stadium are generally a couple of bucks more).

Additionally, the All-You-Can-Eat Right Field Pavilion price will decrease $5 per ticket (advance purchase), and rows X-Z on the field level between the bases will drop $20 per seat.

Parking at Dodger Stadium, currently at $15 per vehicle, will remain the same price (a good thing for us community members who live right by the stadium).

LA Observed also points out that the Yankees series coming up in June won’t be included as those tickets can only be purchased as part of a 14-, 21-, or 28-game mini plan, and cannot be purchased individually.

Some of us recently received these brochures in the mail with just a little information about the 800 plus residential condos that might be built on the hospital’s property. For those Echo Park residents attempting to take part in the brochure’s survey online, all they get is this:

…before even getting started! So far, it looks like the only way to share your thoughts (or many concerns) is to fill out the survey and mail it in, or call Chris Fuentes at 213-202-6840. You can also join the conversation of many concerned Echo Park residents on the Echo Elysian Neighborhood Council Forum.

You can also download the full brochure by clicking here, and you can download/print the actual survey here.

The Eastsider LA has also done some great coverage on the Barlow development, you can read more by clicking here.

From LAist:

“This could be a bad sign for the Dodgers. A 49-year old male vendor died in the Vin Scully Press Box at Dodger Stadium of a heart attack. Being the first open workout a day before the National League Divisional Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, most media members were not in the press box when the vendor died. Access to the press box was blocked off pending the arrival of the coroner, however bags, laptops and cameras were retrieved for the media by several members of the Dodgers staff. More details as they come in.”

From Andrew on the Echo Elysian NC Forum:

Last night just before dusk, a guest of mine went out with one of my dogs up Park Drive to the Marion Harlow garden.  A man followed her from Park Drive into the park and then went into hiding in the bushes.  By the sound of it, he was acting suspiciously and did not have good intentions.  She described him as about 5′ 9″, medium build, tan complexion, brown or black hair.  He was wearing a dark navy or black track suit and a white knit beanie cap.

Please be aware.

This sounds a lot like the lurker who was doing this a couple years ago and was later arrested.  If it is the same person, what was effective was that when he was spotted, that people yelled at him loudly and let him know that he has been spotted.

We called the Rangers and Office of Public Safety (Park Police) when she got back and she filed a report.
If you see any suspicious activity, please call:

Park Rangers:  (323) 644-6661

Office of Public Safety: (213) 978-4670

Hearing the helicopters flying low over our house now for a couple of hours, we decided to check out what was going on at Elysian Park. The police at Academy (near Morton) told us it was the LA Low Riders motorcycle club, and they making sure the motorcycles weren’t migrating toward Echo Park Blvd. This is the first year I’ve noticed the yearly picnic taking place here, but I certainly did notice that parking is tight on Scott Avenue and surrounding streets.

EchoParkTV has posted a video covering the event, check it out here

UPDATE:
LA Eastsider blog has pointed out in a blog post yesterday that the bikers had no permit at Elysian Park. This is a concern, as at around 7:00 pm last night, the park was COMPLETELY trashed.

In addition to that, parking on Scott street was extremely difficult. The Dodgers didn’t seem to have a need for placing “Local Access Only” signs in addition to city parking enforcement on the street corners, despite the over 50,000 paid customers at last night’s game.
