This weekend, the Echo Park Independent Co-op will be hosting three whole days of sales, live music and food trucks! Here’s the schedule:

Friday, July 30th

  • The Grilled Cheese Truck will be serving mouth-watering sandwiches outside the shop from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Saturday, July 31st

  • All jewelry will be 15% off!
  • An acoustic performance by Lindsey Troy at 7:00 pm
  • Sterling and Amy of Crazedotcom will perform at 8:00 pm

Sunday, August 1st

  • All bags will be 20% off!

Echo Park Time Bank Fundraiser at 1642 Bar

1642 Beer and Wine Bar is hosting an Echo Time Bank Fundraiser on Saturday, July 17 from 8:00 pm – 12:00 midnight.

Special musical guests include: Karen Ramos, Les Shelleys and Angela Correa.

They will hold a raffle at 10:00 pm with prizes from Skylight Books, Fix Coffee, Masa and more!

$5 suggested donation.

Saturday: Folk Musician and EP resident at the Echo Curio

On Saturday, June 17 at the Echo Curio, Echo Park resident and folk musician Claire Cronin, along with folk musician Queen Victoria, will be opening for Omaha singer/songwriter Simon Joyner.

Joyner is kicking off his “Living Rooms and Discrete Spaces” tour at the show, focusing on his record Out Into the Snow, a “collection of ramshackle folk-rockers and gorgeous narratives released in 2009 on Team Love.” Simon will be playing as a trio, with pedal steel and keyboards and will be taking requests.

Show starts at 9:00 pm. Capacity is limited at the Echo Curio and is BYOB.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance by clicking here.

Family Campfire Days at Vista Hermosa Park

The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority are teaming up for free family campfires each week throughout the summer.

Along with the campfire, naturalist staff will be in attendance to help demonstrate how to perfect the roasted marshmallow! From the email invitation: “This summer, pack up the family, a picnic dinner, a blanket and head to any one of our four weekly campfire programs…. Programs are complete with an interpretive nature program, campfire songs, and activities.”

Closest to Echo Park is the Vista Hermosa Park campfire evening, which takes place every Wednesday at 7:00 pm starting July 7.

Vista Hermosa Park is located at 100 N. Toluca Street (near Glendale and Beverly Blvd.)

DJ SPINNA:
Regarded as one of the most versatile and talented producers/DJ’s/Remixers in today’s musical arena. With so much studio work, it’s a marvel Spinna travels as much as he does. The constant globe-trotting performances he’s become equally famed for having brought the DJ as far as Iceland, Australia, and South Africa as well as countless jaunts through England, Europe and the U.S. Not to forget, his hugely successful tours of Japan, where Spinna is held in the highest regard throughout the country for his craft in music. He has produced numerous tracks and remixes for notable artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, De La Soul, Mos Def, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Pharoahe Monch, George Michael and many more.

MonaLisa:
Monalisa Murray has been an independent grassroots promoter of quality music and events across the country for the last 20 years. She supported various DJs and musicians in the Los Angeles area before taking her love of music to the tables. She is a member of the KPL All Stars DJ crew and has previously shared bills with DJs such as Spinderella, Garth Trinidad, Vikter Duplaix, Al Jackson, Jeremy Sole, Dam-Funk, Kiilu, Mr. Choc, Babu, Rhettmatic, Coleman, Gomez Warren and Lisa J.

Roller Derby this Saturday: L.A. vs AZ

You think there’s gonna be a protest against Arizona’s new immigration law?

This Saturday, June 12, the Los Angeles Aftershockers face off against the Arizona Derby Dames at 1910 W. Temple St. Cost of admission is $17.00 online and $20.00 at the door. Echo Park Resident Band Health At The Echoplex

HEALTH presumably have a saying: if you do something right once, remix, remix again. They did it two years ago with HEALTH/DISCO, which included remixes of HEALTH tracks by Pictureplane, CFCF, Nosajthing, and of course Crystal Castles, whose version of “Crimewave” threatened to be more popular than HEALTH’s original for a short while. In keeping with this tradition, HEALTH have announced DISCO2, to be released June 22 on Lovepump United.

Like the previous remix album, DISCO2 collects reworkings of tracks from the studio album that preceded it (a little gem called GET COLOR [TMT Review]). Crystal Castles and a few of the same guys from HEALTH/DISCO are back for more, but there are also remixes by Javelin, Small Black, Gold Panda, Tobacco, and Salem. The album’s single and opening track, “USA BOYS,” was mixed by producer Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode). And the excitement just keeps coming: HEALTH are topping it off with a US tour, ending with Lollapalooza in Chicago. – Tiny Mix Tapes
