In celebration of National Poetry Month, The Nervous Breakdown’s Literary Experience is taking place at The Echo on Saturday, April 10th, 2010.

If you’re a fan of Stories Books and Café in Echo Park, looks like they’ve helped make this event happen. Here are the details:

Bneato Organizing Boot Camp

Professional organizer, blogger, and Echo Park resident Beth Zeigler is leading two workshops on Friday to help you get organized. Beth (whose company is called Bneato) will organize your home or office or teach you how to do so. If you don’t have the time or funds for one on one counseling than you are in luck. She leads classes to get you started on your journey to a clear desk.

Rates to be Lowered in Metered Lots

It looks as though the rates for parking in several of Echo Park’s public lots will be decreased in the near future. According to The Eastsider LA:

The following lots will be affected:

Lot 643: 1147 Echo Park Ave., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 662: 1152 Lemoyne St., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 663: 1146 Logan St., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 676: 1146 Glendale Blvd., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 679: 1711 Sunset Blvd., Echo Park, CA 90026

The rates will be decreased from $1.00/hr to $0.25/30 min; and the daily maximum rate will be decreased from $4.00 to $2.50 for 10 hours, with the exception of Lot 643. Lot 643 will have a maximum rate of $1.00 for 2 hours.

Sweet! Maybe now we’ll see fewer FAIL-ed meters! Honestly, I’d rather just put a quarter in the damn thing and not have to worry about getting a ticket.

826LA: Exclusive Screening of “Drones”

On Tuesday, April 13, 826LA will be hosting an exclusive screening of the film Drones at the Egyptian Theater (6712 Hollywood Blvd.).

Drones is full of 826LA volunteers! It was written by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, directed by Amber Benson and Adam Busch, and stars Marc Evan Jackson, Paul F. Tompkins, Samm Levine, James Urbaniak and Dave (Gruber) Allen.The exclusive screening will be followed by a Q&A with cast and crew, moderated by Kevin Pollak. Tickets are priced at 3 levels: $15 balcony, $30 general admission, $100 preferred seating with VIP after-party.

We hope you will join us to celebrate this film and help raise vital funds for 826LA in the meantime. If you like science fiction and love, you must see this movie!

Rock Paper Salon Opens its Doors

Today (Monday, April 5), Echo Park’s newest salon is opening its doors. Rock Paper Salon will be offering hair cutting and coloring services in what looks to be a very elegant atmosphere. The salon’s basic offerings include cuts for men starting at $40 and cuts for women starting at $60. A little more about their hair philosophy:

We just want to make you look good and walk out happy. We know what is in style but aren’t trying to make you look like a hot topic catalog model, or some band that is so hot on pitchfork.com right now. No matter what your age or taste is we can point you in the right direction with your look.

Nice. Also, they have a community bookshelf from which you can borrow a book if you bring in one that you’re finished with. No word on their exact hours yet, but you can give them a call at 213-250-0900 or go here to make an appointment online. The store is located at 1515 W. Sunset Blvd.
