Holiday parking regulations get a little relaxed on days like Thanksgiving Day! While you may have noticed no tickets are being doled out for those street cleaning sides, and the 1-2 hour parking rules relaxed, Friday is back to business so park appropriately!

Here’s the low-down from the LA City Department of Transportation, click the image below for the full PDF:

Bottom line: Park longer than that 1-2 hour time limit and don’t feed the meter (at most meters – look out for the “holidays excluded” signage).

Happy holidays!

No lotus flowers in the lake this year, but they are for sale to take home!

We headed down to Echo Park Lake early to get ahold of the Lotus Festival schedule, which is available to anyone at the information booth in the middle of the festival booths. After the jump: Saturday’s schedule and parking tips. You can read about the history of the Lotus Festival by clicking here.

Parking regulations are a little different this week due to the holiday, so make sure you avoid getting a ticket from evil Santa. Street cleaning restrictions and other regulations on Christmas Eve (Friday) will remain as posted, but Saturday will get a little more relaxed as the city takes off Christmas Day.

Happy holidays!

This gem of information popped up on LAist today about how the holiday parking enforcement is a little relaxed on holidays like Independence Day (today is an observed holiday).

Here are the details from the Department of Transportation:

Other holidays include New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King’s Birthday, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Click on the screen capture above for the full PDF; call 311 if you have any questions.

LA City Council has voted to increase parking fines by $5. The change won’t take place for a few months.

  • Failure to Deposit a Coin into the Meter/Overtime Use of the Meter: $55
  • Street Cleaning: $65
  • Parking in a No Stopping Zone: $85
  • Parking in an Anti-Gridlock Zone: $155
  • White or Yellow Loading Zone Violations: $50
  • Over 18″ from the Curb: $50
  • Parking in a Front Yard: $55 ($80 and $130 for 2nd and 3rd violations within one year).

This info comes to us via LAist. Read their article here.

I notice the price of paying online has also been upped from one dollar to two. You can pay a ticket online here.

On the bright side, local parking lot rates aren’t following suit. See our recent blog post.

It looks as though the rates for parking in several of Echo Park’s public lots will be decreased in the near future. According to The Eastsider LA:

The following lots will be affected:

Lot 643: 1147 Echo Park Ave., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 662: 1152 Lemoyne St., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 663: 1146 Logan St., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 676: 1146 Glendale Blvd., Echo Park, CA 90026
Lot 679: 1711 Sunset Blvd., Echo Park, CA 90026

The rates will be decreased from $1.00/hr to $0.25/30 min; and the daily maximum rate will be decreased from $4.00 to $2.50 for 10 hours, with the exception of Lot 643. Lot 643 will have a maximum rate of $1.00 for 2 hours.

Sweet! Maybe now we’ll see fewer FAIL-ed meters! Honestly, I’d rather just put a quarter in the damn thing and not have to worry about getting a ticket.

From Christine Peters on the Echo Elysian Neighborhood Council Forum:

Council member Huizar Convinces Department of Transportation (DOT) to Lower Rates during Holidays

After hearing concerns from constituents, business owners and the Eagle Rock and Highland Park Chambers of Commerce regarding increased rates at City Parking lots, Councilmember Huizar was successful in getting the City’s Department of Transportation to lower rates at two key locations for the holiday season.

Starting in November, parking rates were reduced from $1 per hour to 50 cents per hour and all-day parking rate were reduced from $4 to $2.50 in the following lots:

Lot #668 at 5058 Meridian St.
Lot #686 at 5063 Caspar Ave.
