New restaurants and businesses:

Ballard’s Framing and Raven-Lily held a grand opening on Saturday, August 7 and officially opened on August 14.
International Playground opened up on August 12 in the old Mohawk Store location at 1102 Mohawk St.
Warwick opened up its new location 1205 Sunset Blvd.
Cookbook, the greengrocer, opened up on August 31 on Echo Park Avenue near Chicken Corner. Click here to read about the store!
A Mac computer repair store is rumored to open up this weekend next door to Beauty Box on Sunset Blvd. More details to come!

Other news:

Drive safe tonight! There’s a DUI checkpoint tonight on Sunset Boulevard and Sutherland Street near the Short Stop on Friday starting at 8:00 pm.
The Park Restaurant will be closed on Saturday and Sunday for the Labor Day weekend.

New restaurants and businesses:

Xoia Vietnamese Eats may open up sometime soon this month (they recently posted Craigslist ads hiring staff). The restaurant took over the old Par Paint location on Sunset Blvd. and Lemoyne Street.
Montana LA, a “paint boutique” selling spray paint, is opening later this month in the 1500 block of Sunset Blvd. The Eastsider LA has the full story.

Closed/Moving

Haute Olive is moving downtown from its Echo Park location under the Sunset bridge on Glendale Blvd.
Warwick closed up its location at 1461 ½ W Sunset Blvd and is now at a much larger space at 1205 Sunset Blvd.

Darling’s Flower Shop and Matsu, a Japanese restaurant, are now sharing the building on Temple. Read more at The Eastsider LA
Marta Teegen of Homegrown is opening up a green grocery store called “Cookbook” on Echo Park Avenue along gallery row (Chicken Corner area). Read more from the Chicken Corner
True Blue Tattoo popped up at 1359 1/2 Sunset Blvd. a month or two ago.

Other new news

Regency Cleaners on Echo Park Ave. and Montana may reopen as early as June, July at the latest. The property was damaged by a fire last September.
